The other night I went fishing on the beach right out front, and tweeted about how I saw tons of helicopters, police boats, coast guards, ect. searching the whole ocean within 5 miles of the shore. I just found out the actual story and the man that called actually lied about his boat accident and how they survived. This is like the balloon boy hoax...

A South Florida man who set off a massive search and rescue operation involving the U.S. Coast Guard and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue after calling 911 to say he and his friends had been in a boating accident has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino said when Willie Lawyer Jr., 43, was taken into custody investigators found that he had an outstanding warrant for drug possession and trafficking along with weapons charges. Lawyer Jr. has refused to make a statement as to what happened Monday night or why he called 911, according to Pino.

In a sworn statement to FWC investigators, Pino said Lawyer Jr. admitting to calling 911 Monday night around 9 p.m. to report his boat had been struck by another vessel off Haulover Beach. Lawyer Jr. reportedly told the emergency operator that the other boat had taken off after the crash, his boat was taking on water and three people were missing.

Investigators would later track the call to Lawyer Jr. and determine that he made it from his home and not out on the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard launched two search boats and a helicopter while Miami-Dade Fire Rescue dispatched ten search boats and searched a five mile grid for hours.

They then received a report that the boaters had been rescued by a good Samaritan who took them to shore. They also heard that one of the boaters, who was injured, was taken to Broward General Medical Center for treatment.

Pino said things started to take a 'fishy' turn when they were unable to find the three 'rescued boaters' or the 'good Samaritan'. A check with the hospital determined they never treated anyone Monday night or early Tuesday morning that had been involved in a boating accident. Pino said investigators were also unable to find any evidence that there was a boat collision.

Lawyer Jr. is being held in the Miami-Dade County Jail without bond.

Field Trip

I took a field trip to the keys to go snorkeling in the fall and forgot I had an underwater disposable that I never got developed. Of course the quality is going to be bad, but here are some of the photos.

Drove up to Fort Lauderdale this afternoon to hang with my buddies in ARTTM who I haven't seen in a year. I feel like the show might actually get better now because they have 500 different cool places to go to, many more juiceheads to get in fights with, and tons of half naked chicks run around down there so it's going to be cool to see the girls they pull. Flew up to Providence for the weekend. Had such a good time seeing all my friends. Only had my camera for about two hours on Saturday. Proceed...

I cruised up to Ray's cabin on Grant street where I used to live. Of course the little groms are still outside skating. Me and Erik gave these kids their first skateboards last year and skated almost everyday with them. It's so crazy to see how much they progressed, both of them are way better than I am now. Nollie heelflips, 360 flips, varials, and more. When I left, these kids could only ollie. It was pretty cool to see that they stuck with skating from day one with us and didn't get caught up with the hoodrats in prov. This is Miguel now. This is him last year

In 1999, UC-Davis civil engineer David Phillips was grocery shopping when he noticed something peculiar. Healthy Choice Foods was offering frequent-flyer miles to customers who bought its products. But a 25-cent pudding would bring 100 miles — the reward was worth more than the product itself.

Recognizing a good thing, Phillips bought 12,150 servings of pudding for $3,140, claiming he was stocking up for Y2K. Then he enlisted the Salvation Army to help him peel off the UPC codes, in exchange for donating the pudding.

He mailed his submission to Healthy Choice, and to their credit they awarded him 1.25 million frequent-flyer miles, enough for 31 round trips to Europe, 42 to Hawaii, 21 to Australia, or 50 anywhere in the United States.

There’s no downside. Phillips also got Aadvantage Gold status for life with American Airlines, which brings a special reservations number, priority boarding, upgrades, and bonus miles. And he got an $815 tax writeoff for donating the pudding.

I've been pretty independent here in Florida and have been thinking of ways to keep myself busy and I decided to try out a little clothing line that is in the works. Just simple, easy designs, aiming for the surf community. Basically just want to keep it local and hook my friends up with some gear, and see where it goes from there. With the help of Ray, I got a few designs to mess around with. Boz and I came up with the name a couple months back. This is just a small preview. If you think it's retarded and are not into it at all, keep it to yourself because I'm not trying to start a business, just a project to mess around with.

Com-i-ty:
1. An atmosphere of social harmony
2. a state of mutual harmony, friendship, and respect, esp. between or among nations or people; civility

I felt that the surf community and relationship between my friends and I just ties together the definition of "Comity" and in a way just gives off a positive vibe.

Once I have more designs, I will be getting more stuff printed, and the first order of shirts are on their way. If you want one let me know, and in a few weeks I'll have an online store put up hopefully. Stay tuned...

After I booked my flights for Hawaii, morning to night, it's all I thought about. I was more excited for this trip than any other I have been on. It didnt actually hit me that I would be on the North Shore until a few days prior. I landed in the late afternoon last Thursday. My buddy Nick Mesce and his friend picked me up, and we grubbed and hit the beach. The sunsets are amazing in Hawaii, so we hung on the beach for a bit and then headed to the Matisyahu concert at Pipeline Cafe. The show was so awesome and everyone I met was so friendly just like the people in Australia. I think the vibe I got from everybody just made me want to stay there forever. On the way back we passed through miles of pineapple and coffee fields. After being awake for more than 24 hours, I made it to my hotel and this place was soooo sick. This was the view from my room that i spent only 5 hours in.

This is another section of the resort with its own beach. Like 270 degrees of the hotel is facing the ocean.

When I woke up, I wanted to take a look around the hotel, and outside by the pool was a red bull invitational skate contest. Hung for a few until my taxi came
I figured the first place I wanted to check out was Pipeline because no matter what, it would be a great experience. Seeing Pipe in magazines and movies is nothing like seeing it in person. The drive down there was beautiful

I pulled up and a bodyboard contest was going on. The waves were going off, huge barrels just spitting out water. I had the chills the whole time I was there. I must have taken 200 pictures in just 45 minutes... Here are a few (All these pics are way cooler if you click an enlarge them)

After I left Pipe, Gerry from Ocean Beach called me and said he was on the north shore heading to sunset. So off I went, took the bike path all the way down. One of the best walks I have ever taken. If you could have saw me, I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time. I was so stoked to be in Hawaii. I must of called 20 people just to let them know that I was seeeing the sickest waves in the world and I couldnt of been happier
Got to Sunset 15 minutes later
Met up with Gerry and he took me over to a buddies house on Sunset beach and we drank beers for a few hours just watching everybody taking off on bombs. It was such a cool experience.

Fell in love with this chick

We walked over to meet up with Kevin at his house, kicked it for a little while, then he gave us a tour of all the famous spots in the area. Went back and had a drink at the hotel. They were filming for the Bethany Hamilton video coming out soon (girl whos arm got bit off by the shark) The picture came out cool but this stupid green spot is right in the middle
Took a nap and then Nick an friends picked me up and we headed to this house party, reggae bands playing, and kids just having a great time. Saw a friend i went to california with like 5 years ago. A few other local kids from Jersey were there. It was pretty awesome but I was so wiped. I was going to call for a taxi to go home but Nick said everyone hitchhikes, so i stood on the side of the road, put my thumb up, and got in the car with some old dude, and i mean old. Probably around 70. I was pretty nervous but i needed to get back. He took me right to the front of the hotel and an hour later I see tons of people leaving the hotel in the middle of the night. Go to my room and TV and internet were going crazy with Tsunami warnings. People were evacuating all over the place, kids were going to the mountains and I got nervous because I was by myself, right on the beach. My parents called and told me to get to the airport just in case so I got in car with some Australian people and when i got there, there was already a 1/2 mile long line of people trying to get flights. I got on one early because the wave was suppose to hit at 11 am, an hung in LA for the day. Tried to get a flight back to Hawaii but it was $1000.

Unfortunately I had to head back to Jersey, but it turned out alright because I had a great time at home and got to surf. I am booking another trip to Hawaii soon because my 12 day trip was only a 2 day trip. The experience of being there for those 2 days were so awesome and it was great to see Nick, Kevin, and Gerry. Thanks for rides and everything else Nick. Ill see you soon

I don't have words to explain how happy I am to be spending time in New Jersey rather than Florida. I head back tomorrow but there hasn't been one day I've been home that wasn't awesome. Got to visit my friends in NYC, Wayne, and then everyone came down to Ocean Beach to hang. Finally got a few pictures to post up on here, you can click to enlarge any of them.

All in all, 2009 turned out to be one of the hardest years of my life dealing with friends and family passing away, as well as many other minor situations. I am looking forward to 2010 and pray this one can be a little better. I've gone through a lot of posts from 2009 and grabbed some memorable / random pics I wanted to post back up here. I just heard about this ceremony yesterday and I really wanted to check it out tonight. It's called the Full Moon Drum Circle."Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together" This is held at every full moon right down the street. It was so sick, I felt like I was on some random island just jamming out.

Last night Allison flew back to Miami so i went to go pick her up at the airport. Took this picture while waiting ... didn't come out as cool as I thought it did

Tis' the season for friggen eggnog. I bought sugar cookie eggnog just to test it out and make sure it was ok.

Hands down, one of the best drinks I have ever had in my life. GO BUY SOME!

I can probably say that today has been the most boring in about a month. Nothing to do, no one to really hang with, and I'm just exhausted. I woke up this morning on Allison and Ashley's futon at 7:30 because the dog had to be brought out. I had enough energy to get up and drive back so I stopped at Mcdonalds for a coffay and then headed back home. Sat on my couch listening to music for about 3 hours until I couldn't handle being bored anymore. Drove down to South Beach for an hour. Stopped in Quiksilver, the Levi's store, and Urban, and drove right home. I just got back from food shopping, picked up a couple necessities and I guess now I'm just going to relax some more and try to book a surf trip. I'll post something later on...
